Havering School Admission Consultations
28 Nov 2016
A message from Havering Council
Statutory consultation on proposed changes to the admissions criteria for Havering Community and Voluntary Controlled Infant, Junior and Primary Schools for 2018/19.
The Council would welcome your views on proposed changes to the admission criterion giving priority to children with siblings at Havering Community and Voluntary Controlled Infant, Junior and Primary Schools for the 2018/19 Reception intake.
Currently, priority for a school place is given to all siblings of children on the roll of the school, on the date of admission regardless of their current address. This means that those children with siblings are likely to gain admission to a school over pupils who live close to the school, even though the siblings may live much further from the school.
The Council is proposing to only give sibling priority to siblings who live within 1.6km of the school. Pupils who live further than 1.6km from the school who currently have a sibling at the school who was admitted prior to September 2018 will be unaffected by this change.
The change to the arrangements aims to strike a balance between
keeping strong family links for those who live local to the school, whilst freeing up capacity for local applicants where families live further away from the school.
The consultation period will run from the 5 December 2016 to the 31 January 2017.
